We are Heat Pump Hot Water Experts
Heat pump hot water systems are extremely energy efficient and are also a great alternative to solar, electric and gas systems. After Hours Plumbing technicians are experts with heat pump hot water systems. We’re available 24/7, every day of the year, and we charge the same rates at all hours.
Heat Pump Hot Water Service and Repair
Some people may think that heat pump hot water systems only work in warmer climates, where they can draw energy from the warm air.
However, the way heat pump systems are designed is to extract warmth out of air down to –10°C, which means they are still a perfect option for those in colder climates. This is similar to how solar panels extract heat and energy from the sun.
If you would like to upgrade your electric hot water systems to a heat pump option, you’ll be pleased to know they share the same connections, so it’s a straightforward job for an After Hours Plumbing technician.
Heat pump hot water systems come in many brands, makes and models and After Hours Plumbing can install, service and repair them all. Some of the trusted brands we work with are:
- Chromagen
- AquaMax
- Rheem
- Rinnai
- Dux
- Stiebel Eltron
- Bosch
Here at After Hours Plumbing, our plumbing experts are fully trained and experienced in all kinds of hot water systems, and heat pumps are no exception.
After Hours plumbers always aim to arrive at your house within 30 minutes* of your call with a fully stocked van, which means they’re prepared to finish the job on the spot. That’s in line with our same-day service policy.
How Heat Pump Systems Work
Heat pump hot water systems use the warmth from the air, as well as some electricity, to pump a refrigerant through a system in order to heat water. The refrigerant boils at low temperatures (around –26°C), allowing a heat pump to work at ambient temperatures as low as –10°C.
Heat pump hot water systems heat your water in several steps:
- A liquid refrigerant is passed through an evaporator where it becomes a gas. This gas picks up heat from the air.
- An electric compressor is used to compress the gas refrigerant, causing it to increase in temperature even more. It is now hotter than the water in the tank.
- This hot gas flows to a condenser and passes its heat on to the water in the tank, turning back into a liquid as it cools down.
- The liquid refrigerant then flows into an expansion valve where it cools, ready to be used again.
While electricity is used to power the compressor and other components of a heat pump hot water system, they are about three times more efficient than standard electric hot water systems. The warmer the temperature is outside, the easier it is for the heat pump to heat your water.
